A lot of people have been disappointed by brightening products on the market. Photoshop marketing is easier and cheaper than formulating an effective brightening cream that needs expensive and specialized ingredients. The right ingredients need to be included at the correct concentration.
In addition to wrinkles or lines, uneven skin tone – dark spots, sun spots and pigmentation can also make the skin look a little old and less vibrant. This is why skin brightening products have become popular. We wanted to make an effective natural cream without any harsh bleaching ingredients, so we sourced the 3 best, natural brightening ingredients available in their full concentrations.
Alpha Arbutin – a lightening agent derived from the Field Dock plant.
**Emblica **– this ingredient is derived from Indian Gooseberry fruit, however, rubbing Indian Gooseberry on the skin won’t do a thing. We use a concentrated standardised extract of Emblica which concentrates the compounds needed.
Ascobyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C) – one of our favourite ingredients to use. As most people know, Vitamin C is one of the best antioxidants out there and is a special form of Vitamin C that is oil-soluble, so it can mix with the oil on our skin and penetrate through.
Will they be effective for you? Everyone is different but we encourage you to do your own research on the ingredients to see whether you think they will work for you. The 3 brightening ingredients that we chose work gradually over time, with consistent use. For best results, use twice a day for 6 to 8 weeks. While using brightening products, try to avoid sun exposure or use a high SPF natural sunscreen. We recommend our Natural Sunscreen SPF 30.
Aqua (H₂O’s Fancy Name), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant-Based Emulsifying Wax) (and) Polysorbate 60 (Food Grade Emulsifier), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Emblica Officinalis (Indian Gooseberry) Fruit Extract, Coco Caprylate (Coconut-Based Conditioner), Alpha-Arbutin (Lightening Agent), Stearic Acid (Thickener), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Oil-Soluble Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Piroctone Olamine (Olamine Salt), Allantoin, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Dehyquart Guar), Hydrolyzed Milk Protein (For Skin Elasticity), Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Powder. Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers. We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what's in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.
What other products do you recommend for pigmentation issues?
We recommend our Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C) in Squalane (25% w/v) 25ml is an antioxidant serum that targets pigmentation and sun damage. It contains 25% of an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C, which makes it easier to be absorbed into the skin. The rest of the serum is made up of 25% Natural Vitamin E, another excellent antioxidant, and 50% Olive Squalane, a natural oil that mimics the oil younger skin naturally produces.
For those looking to exfoliate, we created our Gentle Exfoliating Micro Powder, a gentle, non-abrasive facial exfoliant designed to keep the skin fresh by exfoliating physically and enzymatically.
What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?
There's lots of things you won't find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in commercial moisturisers like Sorbolene. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our skin is the healthiest thing we can do.
We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. We also don't use any useless, trendy ingredients like stem cells from Swiss apples or super power jellyfish DNA, just natural, effective ingredients for healthy skin.
My cream isn’t white. Does this mean it’s gone bad?
Since we use natural ingredients in our products, you may sometimes notice a change in colour to your cream, particularly this one. A change in colour is normal and should be expected since we don’t use any bleaching agents to keep the cream bright white. Natural ingredients are also often rich in colour and can change the colour of a cream after it's mixed in. Don’t be surprised if this cream changes to a light tan colour over time. It’s not a bad thing.
Is this moisturiser made of milk?
We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are made with milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and then putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in a some of our skincare products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%.
If you want to know more about the Milk Protein we use, check out the General section on our FAQ page for more detailed information.
