What you wash your skin with determines so much more than whether it's clean or not. So, it’s a gosh darn mystery to us why cleansers are the most overlooked product (poor cleansers) in any skincare routine. Whilst skin needs to be clean, an overbearing cleanser can cause of dryness, irritation and even breakouts. Before you start blaming your skin troubles on everything else (although late night parties don’t do your skin any favours), there’s a more-likely culprit we can point our fingers at…the outdated commercial cleanser right under our noses. Boo!

It’s common to think that blasting your skin to oblivion with harsh detergents or bleaching ingredients will keep the blackheads at bay and stop the pimples from parading, but we’re here to tell you that stripping the skin of its natural oils just leaves it dreadfully dry, damaged and dually distressed. The sebum in our skin (natural oils that it makes) helps keep it moisturised and in fine form, but if its constantly washed away, your skin could kick into oil-making overdrive, causing cloggage and congestion which can lead to even more breakouts – not exactly the result we were going for. But it’s hard to undo decades of skincare superstitions and the hard-wired hogwash swirling around out there. Old-school untruths like using oils on your skin gives you pimples, or that skin should feel tight after it’s been cleaned.

Our skin-friendly foaming formula is made with gentle, but effective, naturally derived cleansing ingredients that pump into a dreamy, foamy, meringue-y mousse. Designed to dissolve dirt, makeup and debris from the day and clear away dead skin cells to keep your face looking fierce and feeling fresh. We steer clear of harsh ingredients like SLS that foam up well but is also found in just about every hardcore cleansing product, including floor cleaners and engine degreasers – our face says no thanks! We made this caring, non-comedogenic (aka non-clogging) cleanser so we can have all the bougie bubbles without causing any skin troubles.

It gets down and dirty to combat congestion, banishes bacteria, washes away excess oils and helps regulate oil production (a contributing factor to the formation of blemishes) to prevent the bummer of breakouts. Like the cherry to top it all off, we included some Papaya Fruit Extract to clarify the skin with gentle, enzymatic exfoliation that dives deep into pores and helps remove rough, flaky skin to ditch drabby dullness. And because we make all our products for people with sensitive skin, and blemish-prone skin is often just that, we popped in a pinch of Calendula Extract to help calm and soothe breakouts, pimples and redness. Gentle enough to be used every day, morning and night, and perfectly suitable for all ages and skin types, including the fussiest of teenagers.

What makes this formula foamy?

Our fluffy, foamy formula is made possible by our naturally derived cleansing ingredients in combination with our foaming-making pump bottle. What type of skin is the Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser best for?

This cleanser is made for absolutely anyone and everyone but it’s especially effective for those with blemish-prone and oiler skin types. What is double-cleansing and what products do you recommend?

Double cleansing is where you wash your face twice in the same go, once with an oil-based cleanser and once with a water-based cleanser, one one after the other. The order in which you do these comes down to personal preference. Some like to use the oil-based cleanser first (like our Oil Cleansing Method) to remove heavier makeup and SPF products, followed by the water-based cleanser (like our Creamy Hydrating Face Cleanser or our Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser) to do the final clean sweep. Others like to let the water-based cleanser do the first pass and finish up with the oil-based cleanser to get even deeper into the pores and leave a sheeny residue on the skin. Haven’t tried double-cleansing yet? It’s so hot right now. We highly recommend doing this once a week to give your skin that extra once (or twice) over for the ultimate deep clean.

We also recommend a routine with regular, but gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin for a fresher, brighter, more radiant complexion. What other products do you recommend for blemish-prone skin?

While our products work well on their own, we think they work best together. Teamwork makes the dream work! To best care for blemish-prone and oilier skin types, we recommend using this cleanser conjunction with a soothing and regenerative serum or face oil like our Calophyllum Inophyllum (Tamanu) Seed Oil (100%), and our Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser which we specifically designed to help control some common causes for blemishes and breakouts while nurturing the skin with healthy and gentle ingredients. Approaching your skin concern at every step in your routine will allow the products you use to work together synergistically to best achieve your skincare goals.

We also recommend a routine with regular exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and keep pores clear of cloggage and congestion. Our Gentle Exfoliating Micro Powder is a clear choice for its 2-pronged approach to exfoliation, physical and enzymatic, and because we designed it to draw out impurities and soothe the skin at the same time. Another cleansing option is to use an oil-based product like our Oil Cleansing Method. This may sound counterintuitive for blemish-prone or oily skin, but the drawing oils we use dissolve hardened sebum that can get stuck in your pores, and help remove built up dirt, sweat and makeup from deep with your pores.

What ingredients do you avoid when making a cleanser?

There's lots of things you won't find in our cleansers (or any of our other products for that matter) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends, and we wanted the best for them. We steer clear of ingredients like SLS, which can be found in many commercial toothpaste, shampoos and hand soaps to floor cleaners and engine degreasers. It’s quite a harsh ingredient and doesn't play nice with skin, often causing dryness, irritation and even skin flare-ups.

We much prefer naturally derived, skin-friendly cleansers because they provide a gentle and thorough cleanse without over-stripping the skin of its natural oils. We also don't use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're still pretty common, even by a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, but there’s way too many to list here. Instead, we just stick to natural and effective ingredients for healthy skin.

I see fragrance in the ingredients list, what is the fragrance exactly?

The main concern with most fragrances is that they’re often made with phthalates. Of course, we don’t use these in our formulas because they’re well-known to be irritating to the skin, often causing dryness and itching. Instead, we use a blend of non-irritating, hypoallergenic fragrances that are suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Each part of this fragrance blend is below the EU’s allergy threshold, and we have used it in many of our products for years now without any reactions. The fragrances we use are proprietary blends from a company we work with, so unfortunately, we cannot reveal their exact details. Think of it as our top secret, reaction-free recipe!

Why don't we make different cleansers for different skin types?

We often get asked why we don’t make different cleanser specific to different skin types such as dry, oily, normal or combination skin. While we believe that people have different skin types and different skin needs, if you look closely at ingredient labels, you’ll notice that there often isn't much difference between products specifically made for each variation. In our opinion, we don’t think all the different types of cleansers are needed if you have a good formula (we think ours are pretty darn good). A cleanser made for oily skin would have a higher concentration of cleansers than one made for dry skin, but you can achieve much the same result by varying the amount of cleanser you use or washing your skin twice, if needed.

Are your cleansers made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our moisturisers are made of milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck!

Are your cleansers safe for lash extensions?

Oils can break down the glue used for lash extension, so we suggest that you steer clear of using the Oil Cleansing Method. Our other cleansing products are perfectly suitable to use on the eye area whilst you’ve got lashes on.
