5 Helpful Hints for Breaking Up with Blemishes

Dealing with blemish-prone skin can be frustrating, embarrassing, and overall, just not a GOO-d time. But don’t MOO-stake it for an issue only related to high school’s puberty blues; it's a common skin concern that can affect people of all ages and skin types. So, if you struggle with pesky, problematic pimples as an adult, you’re not alone! We’re not going to leave you to wander about the paddock unassisted though. We’ve made it this far in our field for good reason (lol, get it … field)! Education is key when it comes to all things skin, so let’s chew through what causes blemishes, and what you can do to banish them from your beautiful face … or back, chest, and behind (Hay, it happens! MOO-ve along…)

So, what are blemishes?

First, let's talk about what blemishes are. Blemishes are essentially pores that become clogged with oil, dirt, cosmetic products, dead skin cells, and bacteria. This can lead to the formation of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and other types of acne that disrupt an otherwise cool, calm and collected complexion.

And what makes such pimples pop-up and prosper?

There are several factors that can contribute to these problematic pores. Genetics, hormonal changes, diet, and certain medications can all make you more susceptible to breakouts. But it’s not MOO-sic to our ears that the not-so-clear culprit behind these bothersome blemishes is often a poor skincare routine. Ding, ding! Can you hear those cowbells ringing? MooGoo to the rescue… Lucky for MOO, we know all about giving these grubby guys a big old kick out the door. Sorry not sorry, you can’t stay here rent-free!

So, here’re our helpful hints on how to begin breaking up with blemishes - for good this time.

1. Stay clean, stay clear!

Use a gentle, paraben-free, water-based cleanser to cleanse your skin twice daily. This will remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture, which can often lead to even worse situations.

It’s common to think that blasting your skin to oblivion with harsh detergents or bleaching ingredients will keep the blackheads at bay and stop the pimples from parading, but we’re here to tell you that stripping the skin of its natural oils just leaves it dreadfully dry, damaged and double distressed. The sebum in our skin (natural oils that it makes) helps keep it moisturised and in fine form, but if its constantly washed away, your skin could kick into oil-making overdrive, causing cloggage and congestion which can lead to even more breakouts – not exactly the result we were going for.

Our Gentle Foaming Cleanser is the solution to this old-school superstition. Our skin-friendly, foaming formula is made with gentle yet effective, naturally derived cleansing ingredients that pump into a dreamy, creamy, meringue-y mousse. Specifically designed to combat congestion, we also included some purposeful Papaya Fruit Extract to clarify, and a pinch of calming Calendula Extract to soothe away any redness. Apply to wet skin and gently massage into your face, enjoying the s-MOO-th feel as you do.

2. Scrub-a-dub-dub.

Exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. This can help prevent the formation of new blemishes and improve the overall texture of your skin. Exfoliating is a skincare technique that involves removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This can be done using physical exfoliants, such as scrubs or brushes, or chemical exfoliants, which use ingredients like glycolic acid or salicylic acid to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells.

We’ve carefully designed a non-abrasive, facial exfoliant to help you buff away the day and turn over a new leaf to start fresh. We believe that dual exfoliation (meaning organic acid and non-scratchy physical particles) is the most effective way to gently exfoliate. Making soothing and gentle products is always our priority, so we made this suitable for daily use, for all skin types.

Our unique formula contains a very calculated percentage (1.5%) of Salicylic Acid (BHA) which are plant-derived organic acids. These organic acids are attracted to oil and exfoliate deep into the pores. It’s the best thing for a deep cleanse and to address impurities that already exist.

We’ve also used Rice Bran powder to physically exfoliate as it has a very delicate physical structure and contains antioxidant-rich, moisturising proteins. But wait, there’s more! We included Bentonite Clay too, to draw out impurities and leave your skin feeling fresh, and Marshmallow Root to soothe and calm skin.

3. Hooves out of your face!

Avoid touching your face with your hands, as this can transfer bacteria and oils from your hands to your face, which can cause further blemishes. And it goes without saying that you should only ever use freshly cleaned hands (and tools) to apply any skincare too.

4. MOO-isturise, always.

Dry skin can be more susceptible to blemishes and other skin problems, so using a moisturiser is a non-negotiable to help to prevent these issues, along with other benefits that come with keeping skin hydrated (hello, anti-ageing).

Moisturisers work by forming a protective barrier on the surface of the skin, which helps to lock in moisture and prevent the skin from becoming dry and irritated. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin.

In addition to providing hydration, moisturisers can help soothe and calm the skin, including ingredients specifically targeted to those unseemly spots. Our Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser is a natural alternative to regular blemish creams. Almost all creams made to help with blemish-prone skin use Benzoyl Peroxide bleach. This is why hair will bleach to an orange colour when in contact with most blemish creams. Bleaches are cheap, but not the first choice in keeping skin looking young and healthy. We decided to take a different approach and create a cleansing cream that also works as a moisturiser. Made with Green Tea Extract and Resveratrol to manage oil production, it may cost a few dollars more for us to make this cream, but healthy skin is priceless!

5. No picking, no squeezing! Capeesh?

Avoid picking or squeezing your blemishes, as this can cause them to become infected and lead to scarring. Instead, try using a product containing salicylic acid to help dry out the blemish and speed up the healing process.
